A sea of opportunities creates a developing industry
The marine industry is experiencing strong growth, which creates both new opportunities and major challenges. Some of these challenges have been resolved – many remain. New technology will play a key role in, among other things, ensuring fish welfare, operational reliability and reduced environmental impact.
Inventas combines cutting-edge technological expertise with deep industry insight to deliver tailored solutions that help your company develop within aquaculture and food production, maritime transport, autonomy and remote control, subsea and robotics, as well as oceanography and seabed mapping - from idea to finished product.
We help you where you are in the development process:
Product development
To succeed in product development, you need both deep expertise and a holistic understanding of the process. We cover the entire development cycle – from concept to production – and help you develop robust solutions that work in demanding environments. With our inclusive approach, we ensure that your product is ready for both small-scale production and scale-up.
Consulting
We help you from idea to implementation. With our experience, you get to your goal faster, reduce risk and increase the chance of success. Together we find the best solutions and ensure that the technology is seamlessly integrated into production.
Quality and certification
Development in marine technology requires control of regulations, certifications and standards. We help you navigate this landscape and ensure good processes throughout the project – from prototype testing to production. Our focus on quality gives you confidence that the product will meet all requirements, also in practical use.
New technology will be a key part of the solution
The ocean covers most of the Earth's surface and is on average over 3,000 meters deep. It provides us with food, energy and transport options, while also having a major impact on the climate and environment. Resources from the ocean are becoming increasingly important to meet the world's growing need for food and energy, but less than 30% of the ocean is still mapped.
As a maritime nation, Norway receives around 70% of its export revenues from the ocean. We are among the world's leaders in aquaculture, marine transport, mapping and underwater oil and gas extraction. This provides great opportunities for growth and export.
But if we are to live from the ocean in the future, we must take responsibility for the resources. At the same time, the ocean industry is facing stricter requirements for the environment, emissions, safety and animal welfare. Fortunately, new technology gives us the opportunity to stay ahead of the requirements – and create new competitive advantages.
We work mainly towards four segments within the marine industry:
Farming and food production
The aquaculture industry is growing rapidly, but it also faces several demanding challenges, many of which must be solved through new technology. This is where we are at home. We develop safe, innovative solutions that work both above and below water – and on the way to and from the aquaculture sites.
Transport, autonomy and remote control
The maritime sector is crucial for global trade. But stricter requirements are pushing the need for smarter and more sustainable solutions. We have solid experience in cybernetics, autonomous systems and digital user interface design – the maritime technology of the future.
Subsea and robotics
Exploring and exploiting the ocean space requires advanced underwater robots, remotely operated tools and autonomous systems. We help you develop robust solutions that work in the most demanding underwater environments.
Oceanography and mapping
We need more knowledge about marine ecosystems to manage ocean resources sustainably. Inventas has extensive experience in developing solutions within underwater acoustics, data collection and measurement systems – so you can map the ocean space more precisely.
For almost 30 years, we have collaborated with leading players in subsea, maritime transport and aquaculture. With cutting-edge expertise and industry insight, we develop tailored, sustainable solutions that help companies meet the demands of today – and seize the opportunities of tomorrow.
Technology that drives the marine industry forward
The maritime industry faces several challenges, such as stricter environmental and safety requirements, tough competition and demanding physical conditions. If we are to meet future needs for food, energy and resources, we must develop technology that ensures sustainable growth and efficient resource use.
The maritime industries are diverse, but not everything is unique in each of them. Technology and expertise transfer between the maritime industries – from oil and gas to marine transport, robotics and aquaculture – provides new opportunities for collaboration and innovation.
The Norwegian technology environment provides unique advantages, with experience from underwater technology, marine transport and oil and gas. This provides a solid base for innovation, export and growth across the maritime industries.
How to succeed with innovation and development in the marine industry
Solutions that withstand the challenges of the sea
The sea is a demanding environment. To develop solutions that work here, we must understand the entire development process – from idea to finished product – and put the technology in the right context.
At Inventas, we combine practical experience with broad technology expertise. Since 1997, we have worked hands-on with product and technology development for various industries, which provides great transfer value between sectors. Our development expertise covers the entire process – from concept development to certification and implementation.
With this interdisciplinary approach, we help our customers meet both regulatory requirements and technical challenges, while creating solutions that work in practice.
Below we have collected some of the projects and challenges we have solved together with our customers.
